SPF

What is SPF?

SPF (Sender Policy Framework) is an email authentication protocol that specifies which mail servers are authorized to send emails on behalf of your domain. It helps prevent spoofing by verifying the sender’s IP address.

Why is SPF Important?

SPF is essential for:

  • Preventing Spoofing: Stops attackers from sending phishing emails that appear to come from your domain.
  • Improving Deliverability: Reduces the chances of your emails being marked as spam.
  • Building Trust: Assures recipients that your emails are legitimate.

How Can I Use SPF?

  1. Create an SPF Record: Define which IP addresses or servers are authorized to send emails for your domain.
  2. Publish the SPF Record: Add it to your DNS settings.
  3. Monitor and Update: Regularly review and update your SPF record as needed.

Brief History of SPF

SPF was introduced in the early 2000s as a response to the growing problem of email spoofing. It became an official internet standard in 2006 and is now a foundational component of email authentication.
