Overview

The Pareto Principle is real: 20% of your customers drive 80% of your revenue. Yet most businesses treat everyone the same. Same emails. Same offers. Same attention. That's leaving money on the table. This playbook gives you a 3-email sequence to: - Identify your VIP customers (high engagement + high spend) - Make them feel special (because they are) - Sell them premium offers they'll actually buy Your VIPs will spend 5-10x more than average customers. But only if you treat them differently.

When to Use This

Run this quarterly or when you launch premium offers. Ideal for: → E-commerce (to identify repeat buyers for exclusive offers) → SaaS (to upgrade power users to enterprise) → Service businesses (to sell retainers or premium packages) → Courses/info products (to sell high-ticket coaching or masterminds) You need at least 500 customers to make segmentation worth it. Below that, just talk to everyone personally.

Customization Tips

  • Define VIP criteria carefully: high LTV + high engagement (not just one or the other)
  • Good VIP indicators: repeat purchases, high AOV, long tenure, high email engagement, product usage intensity
  • Email 1 should name-drop the criteria so they understand WHY they're VIP
  • The price warning in Email 1 PS is crucial - it filters out people who will waste your time
  • Email 2 should have application/call for anything over $2K - you want to qualify buyers
  • For lower-ticket VIP offers ($500-$2K), direct purchase works fine
  • Include current VIP customers in testimonials - peer recognition matters

What to Measure

  • VIP segment size (should be 10-30% of customer base)
  • Open rates (VIPs should open 50-70% vs. 30-40% average)
  • Application/inquiry rate (Email 2 should get 15-30% click-through from VIPs)
  • Qualified lead rate (of people who apply, how many fit criteria)
  • Conversion rate (qualified applicants who become customers - aim for 40-60%)
  • Average contract value (VIP offers should be 5-10x regular pricing)
  • Revenue per VIP customer (total) vs. revenue per average customer
  • VIP retention rate (% who stay VIP status over time)
  • Lifetime value increase (LTV of VIP segment vs. average)
